Note at beginning of author's diary outlines her position at the "Family Living Consultant Center" in Heritage Halls at Brigham Young University: "In Sept. 1953, services of Home Econ. dept were made available to students living in Heritage Halls. A room in Rogers hall was equipped with kitchen unit - sewing machines - file desk - chairs for audience for demonstrations [-] cutting table - and one of the instructors from the dept. was assigned to begin the informal teaching program." ...

Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program. Plans were officially announced in February of 1954 with the completion deadline being set for December of the same year.
