The Institute of Inter-American Affairs, forerunner to the University of Florida's Center for Latin American Studies, was established in 1930. The first director of the Institute was Rollin Salisbury Atwood. The Institute's purpose was "to foster better cultural and economic relations between the United States and Latin America."
