Papers include: Pocket diaries (1851, 1859-1860, 1869, 1874, 1877-1878, 1883-1885, 1889-1893) describing business and personal affairs of Miller; diaries (1825-1854) in German recording events in Germany, overseas voyage to America, settlement in the Midwest and journey to Oregon (1853); two copies of advertising literature with list of trees and shrubs for sale (1882-1883). Diaries (1825-1854) in German are also available on microfilm.

Miller, Henry, 1814-1894

Henry Miller, pioneer nurseryman and florist, was born in Hanover, Germany in 1814 and emigrated to the United States while a young man. He crossed the plains to Oregon in 1853 and settled near the town of Milwaukie. He ran a large orchard for a few years, then moved into Portland and engaged in business as a florist and seedman.
