R. Hoe & Company records, 1858-1878.

Incoming letters to the Hoe Co. from customers in many states and several European and Latin American countries, deriving from 3 or more letter books of 1858, 1873 and 1877-1878. There are also some 1873-1878 internal memos, patent correspondence, and letters from regional agents of the Hoe Co., including 24 from W.H. Kerkhoff in Chicago, and smaller numbers from Horace Dodd in Boston, and the South Carolina firm of Walker, Evans and Cogswell. Other Chicago customers include: Chicago Evening Journal, Chicago Press and Tribune, Lakeside Press (R.R. Donnelley & Sons), and Rand McNally.
