James Davidson papers, 1802 June 14-Nov. 13.

Court proceedings of Georgetown District, S.C., finding Prince, a slave, guilty of burglary at the house of Mrs. Ann Robinson near Blackmingo [Creek], and ordering penalty of death for the offense; includes assessed value of Prince, "the property of James Davidson," as five hundred dollars, and directs that the state reimburse Davidson for the execution of his slave. Document also includes signatures of justices Sam[ue]l Nesmith, and James G. Calhoon, and freeholders Robert Dick, James McConnell, David Wilson, Samuel McCants and John Graham. Also includes petition to the Honorable Speaker and members of the [S.C.] House of Representatives, 13 Nov. 1802, in which Davidson reports the execution, 17 June 1802, of Prince and requests compensation during the current session of the General Assembly.
