Massie was an early pioneer surveyor of the Ohio River area, founder of Chilicothe (Adams County, Ohio), a member of the Ohio Constitutional Convention, and a candidate for Ohio governor, 1807 (from the "Life of Edward Tiffin," p.21). Tiffin was a physician and surgeon, Commissioner of the General Land Office of the U.S., Surveyor-General of the Northwest, Prothonotary of Ross Co. (Ohio), Speaker of the House of Representatives (Ohio), Pres. of the Ohio Constitutional Convention, the first Governor of Ohio, 1803-1807, and U.S. Senator, 1807-1809. (For further information see the "Life of Edward Tiffin.") Eustis was Governor of Massachusetts, 1823-1825, Minister (Ambassador) to Holland, Secretary of State under Pres. Madison, a Boston Physician, and Revolutionary War surgeon. (Information from OCLC name authority.)
