East Alabama Male College, sponsored by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was chartered in May 1856. Classes opened in 1859 in Auburn, Alabama, but the college closed during the Civil War. Hall worked as a professor of textile engineering at Auburn University from 1965 until his retirement in 1995.
