License signed by Pedro de Barrientos Lomelín, canon of the cathedral of Mexico City and bishop-elect of Guadiana (now Durango), granting permission to any priest to perform the nuptial rites for don Garci Tello de Sandoval and his wife doña Isabel Tello de Portugal, who were married "por palabras de presente" in Seville, just before their departure for New Spain. Barrientos warns the priest to carry out the ceremony exactly and with witnesses. His license is dated November 11, 1654 in Mexico City and is signed by the notary Nicolás de Orbea. On the verso of the license, Francisco Carrillo de la Zerda has added a postscript, certifying that he has carried out the confirmation of marriage in the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios on November 19, 1654, in the presence of two witnesses, licenciados Augustin de la Ranca and Andrés de Soto.
