The series contains the administrative files from 1941 to 1957 of President Doak S. Campbell of Florida State College for Women (1941-1946) and Florida State University (1947-1957). The series is incomplete; files for 1945, 1951-1952, and 1955 are missing. In addition, years for which files exist are not always complete. The records include correspondence, memoranda, reports, and budgets. It documents Dr. Campbell's interactions with university staff and faculty; the Board of Control; other universities; campus committees; organizations; and other agencies.

The Florida State College for Women (FSCW) Artist Series began in 1923. Dean Ella Opperman was the first person in charge of organizing the series. The series was intended to bring renowned artists to FSCW. After FSCW became Florida State University (FSU), the FSU School of Music managed the series.
