Cyane logbook, 1846-1847.

Logbook of the Navy sloop Cyane and a clipping. Log kept for the Navy sloop Cyane while under the command of William Mervine and Samuel F. Dupont during cruises in the Pacific to California and to the coast of Mexico. Records kept during the time period when the sloop was active in the Mexican War. Records were also kept during cruises in the Caribbean Sea and include landings at Trinidad, Barbados, and other islands. The clipping (ca. 1847) contains information about the Cyane's actions during the Mexican War. It lists the names of the Cyane's officers, as well as two military passengers.

The U.S.S. Cyane was launched December 2, 1837. During the Mexican-American War she carried John C. Fremont's California Battalion to San Diego, La Paz, and Mazatlan before returning to Norfolk in 1848. The Cyane was decommissioned in 1871.
