Jessie C. Chase, born in Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Wells College in 1877 and joined the Detroit Public Library Staff in 1893. She retired in 1938. For her pioneer work in establishing Detroit's branch library system, the Detroit Library Commission named a branch in honor of her, located at West Seven Mile at Fenmore.
