Chase, Jessie Clara, d. 1952.
Jessie C. Chase, born in Cleveland, Ohio, graduated from Wells College in 1877 and joined the Detroit Public Library Staff in 1893. She retired in 1938. For her pioneer work in establishing Detroit's branch library system, the Detroit Library Commission named a branch in honor of her, located at West Seven Mile at Fenmore. Jessie Chase died at the age of ninety-five in Detroit, November 1952. Miss Chase was a member of many genealogical organizations, including the Michigan Society of Mayflower Descendants, Huguenot Society of Michigan, Colonial Dames of America, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Society of Daughters of Colonial Wars.
