Manuel López Escudero y Cuevas papers, 1780-1840.

Correspondence and legal, official, and church documents relating to Manuel López Escudero. Correspondence dates from 1820 to 1840 and consists of incoming letters only, the majority of which are from his sister, Josefa López Escudero, and Cristóbal Martínez de Castro. Most deal with López Escudero's finances and the management of haciendas. Legal documents include depositions concerning hacienda matters (such as delivery of bushels of corn), and include inventories of estate for both López Escudero and Martínez de Castro. Church documents consist of receipts paid by Thomas López Escudero for capellanías from 1780-1792 (filed as G229); a plan for capellanías by López Escudero, including names of people paying for masses and the amount of wine and hosts used between 1788 and 1790 (G246); and a 1786 legal document concerning the establishment of a chaplaincy for López Escudero at Tequimilco, a hacienda in Chalco (G255).
