Papers include correspondence and other sundry items primarily regarding the admininstration of the University of Pittsburgh and its medical school and Dr. McCormick's varied social and civic concerns. Of note is material from the American Association for Labor Legislation, the American Fair Trade League, the American League for National Unity and Samuel Swett's National Council of Agriculture, Labor, Capital and Commerce. While many of these items are form letters and publications describing the organization's activities, Swett's material provides more personal correspondence between him and McCormick. Also included in an essay on musician Stephen Collins Foster.

Samuel Black McCormick, a Presbyterian minister, lawyer and educator, served as Chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh from 1905 to 1920. Stephen Collins foster was born in Pittsburgh in 1826. He wasnaturally inclined to music and he wrote over one hundred and seventy songs in his short life.
