Typescript copy of Cyrus Shepard's diary (1834-1835) kept while accompanying fellow missionary Jason Lee from Acton, Massachusetts (March 4, 1834) to Fort Vancouver (1834); describes teaching school at Fort Vancouver, the establishment and progress of Lee's Willamette Mission, texts of sermons preached by Jason and Daniel Lee, death of Kenotish (Indian boy), and Daniel Lee's departure for the Sandwich Islands.

Reverend Daniel Lee, pioneer Methodist missionary, was born on July 1, 1806 in Stanstead, Quebec. Following his ordination in 1834, Daniel traveled overland to Oregon with his uncle, Jason Lee. They established the Willamette Mission at Mission Bottom (near Salem). After spending two years (1835-1836) in the Sandwich Islands, he returned to Oregon and soon was assigned to the Indian mission at The Dalles, where he served from 1838 to 1843. Reverend Jason Lee, pioneer Methodist missionary, was born on June 28, 1803 in Stanstead, Quebec. After his ordination in 1834, Jason Lee and his nephew, Daniel Lee, journeyed overland to Oregon to serve the Flathead Indians. It was soon decided to abandon the Flathead mission and establish a new mission in the Willamette Valley.
