John Roy diary, 1860-1862, 1871.

Roy's 154-page diary gives a daily account of his activities from April 23, 1860 to September 4, 1862, including the construction of the Custom House and Post Office and his service in the Civil War. He relates the defense of Fort McGee near New Orleans in detail.

John Roy was assistant superintendent of construction for the U.S. Custom House in New Orleans and a Confederate captain of artillery in the Civil War. P.G.T.
