University Hospital Events and Activities Photographs 1968-1992.

This series consists of miscellaneous photographs taken by the Office of Hospital Public Relations from 1968 to 1971. A group of negatives from a retirement reception for Dr. James A. Pittman, dean of the School of Medicine from 1973 to 1992, are also a part of this series. The images generally document events and activities at the Medical Center. Included are photos of a helicopter landing at the Center in 1969; construction of the South Wing of University Hospital from 1968 to 1970; groundbreaking ceremonies for the Basic Sciences, School of Nursing, and Lister Hill Library buildings in 1968; the opening of "5 East"; the placement of the new University Hospital Ambulatory Clinic sign on the old Crippled Children's Hospital; the first UAB Commencement ceremony in 1970; senior day for the University Hospital School of Nursing; and cardiovascular surgery in 1970. The images are all black and white "snapshots." The photographs arrived to the UAB Archives in considerable disarray, and they are arranged by the events or activities recorded in the images.
