The compilation begins with García Contreras Figueroa's petition for release from prison where he is being held for non-payment of debts. He contends that as an "hidalgo" and descendant of one of the early conquistadores of New Spain, he cannot be imprisoned for civil crimes. Juan Alonso de Contreras presents supporting petitions for the release of his brother and for official recognition of the nobility of his family. Most of the testimony, spanning three generations, documents the Contreras family's legal efforts to establish the nobility of their line. Also included are petitions for continuances, proofs of filiation, genealogical descriptions and the judge's final granting of nobility status to Andrés de Contreras Villegas, dated May 13, 1695.
