The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Incorporated in 1888 under the laws of Washington Territory, the company succeeded in building and operating a railroad line extending from Spokane Falls to the international boundary where it connected with a sister company, the Nelson and Fort Sheppard Railway of British Columbia.
