The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. The company was incorporated in 1909 to take over two existing, partially completed railroads: the Central Oregon Railroad Company and the Oregon Trunk Line, Inc. It completed those lines and built additional trackage aggregating 157 miles and linking the cities of Fallbridge (Wash.), Metolius (Ore.), Opal City (Ore.), and Bend (Ore.).
