The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Incorporated in 1891, the company built a 55-mile main line from Waneta to Troop Junction and leased 6 miles of trackage from the Canadian Pacific. It received a land grant to help finance construction and it platted the townsites of Rossland, Ymir, Erie, Hall, and Quartz Creek.
