The company was incorporated by GN interests in 1901 to take over the properties of the Great Falls and Canada Railway, a narrow gauge railroad running from Great Falls to the international boundary. It then built additional lines northwest to the boundary near Rexford. Its lines were formally transferred to GN in 1907 and its charter was allowed to expire in 1921. The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam.
