The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. Kettle River Railroad Company (Sandstone, Minn.).

The company was organized in 1886 to link the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad to the Sandstone quarries (2.3 miles). The poorly located line was unsuccessful and the company's stock was sold in 1891 to its competitor, the Eastern Railway Company of Minnesota, a GN subsidiary. Its tracks were all removed by 1894.
