The company, incorporated in 1883, owned commercial real estate on Lake Erie. GN acquired it in 1887 and built a grain terminal on the property, which was used by the vessels of the Northern Steamship Company, another GN subsidiary, as the distant terminus of its Great Lakes route. The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam.
