The company was incorporated in 1914 to acquire locomotives and other rolling stock and to lease or sell them to GN. This arrangement legally permitted GN to issue its First and Refunding Mortgage bonds against those equipment purchases, which it would not have been able to do if it bought the equipment directly. The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam.
