Great Northern Equipment Company.
The company was incorporated in 1914 to acquire locomotives and other rolling stock and to lease or sell them to GN. This arrangement legally permitted GN to issue its First and Refunding Mortgage bonds against those equipment purchases, which it would not have been able to do if it bought the equipment directly. The company was dissolved in 1967.
