The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. The company was organized as the Devils Lake and Northern Railway in 1900 by a group of farmers, and was formally incorporated in 1902 under the later name. It built or leased 66 miles of rail line running north from Devils Lake to Hansboro near the international boundary. The Great Northern acquired most of the corporate stock through purchase and construction assistance and so controlled the line. The corporation was dissolved in 1945.
