The Rexford, Mont., station of the Great Northern Railway was established in 1903. It was closed in 1972 when the railroad was rerouted due to the flooding of the area behind the Libby Dam. The company was incorporated by James J. Hill interests in 1880 to mine coal from lands in Boone, Greene, and Dallas counties.
