Photographs 1940-1989.

This series of photographs from the 1940s through the 1980s is arranged alphabetically by subject and includes aerial views of campus from the 1950s to the 1970s; photos for the 1976 and 1977 UAB annual report; images of campus buildings from the 1940s to the 1980s; photos of centers or other units; and general photos of UAB events and activities such as ballet, exhibits, faculty, heart surgery, and legislators. The photographs were maintained by the Office of Media Relations and its predecessors and document the Office's mission to provide information to the news media about UAB. The photographs were used for internal publications and accompanied press releases or news articles released to the media.

Dentist, dean, university vice president, university president Dr. Joseph F. Volker was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1913. He earned a D.M.D. degree from Indiana University and an A.B., M.S. and Ph. D., from the University of Rochester.
