William Bickley (1914-2010) was a professor in the Department of Entomology at the University of Maryland from 1949 to 1978. During that time, he also served as head of the department for 15 years. The William Bickley papers consist of departmental correspondence, publications, newsletters, photographs, clippings, grade books, and Bickley's personal recollections of his time at Maryland as a graduate student and professor. Also included is a bibliography of Ernest Cory, a former professor in the Entomology Department, and a history of the department.

William Elbert Bickley was a zoologist, entomologist (specializing in mosquitoes), and professor of entomology at the University of Maryland from 1949 to 1978. Bickley was born on 20 January 1914 in Knoxville, Tennesse. He received a bachelor's degree in agriculture from University of Tennessee in 1934, and later received master's and doctoral degrees from University of Maryland.
