Philip Guedalla was born on 12 March 1889 in London. He received his education from Rugby School and Balliol College Oxford, where he became President of the Oxford Union in 1911. Between 1913 to 1923 Guedalla served as a Barrister at the Inner Temple, London. During the First World War, 1914-1918, he served as a legal adviser to the Contracts Department of the War Office and Ministry of Munitions.
