Scrapbook about James Madison, 1812-1857 (bulk 1836-1849).

Force's scrapbook contains clippings about Madison, chiefly obituary notices and eulogies. There are also clippings about incidents in his life and administration, particularly during the War of 1812 as well as tipped in prospectuses for a biography and his papers. There are copies of Madison speeches and letters, and letters from Dolley Payne Todd Madison and J.C. Payne.

James Madison (1751-1836) was the fourth president of the United States, born in Port Conway, Virginia. He was a member of the Virginia legislature from 1776 to 1780 and from 1784 to 1786, and the Continental Congress from 1780 to 1783.
