Records, 1903-1977 (bulk 1945-1977)

The collection contains records of both the Indianapolis Music Promoters and its parent organization the National Association of Negro Musicians. IMP records include correspondence, yearbooks, programs, and a fifty-year history. Also included is a tribute to Lillian Morris Le Mon and a scrapbook kept by Clara Kirk Hill. NANM records include correspondence, addresses, programs, and plans for the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial celebration. Also included are records from the Indiana State Association of Negro Musicians, including a 1942 annual report and convention programs.

Founded in 1919 as a branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians to encourage musical study and to foster musical talent in young people. Many club members directed musical groups, and the club gave regular musical performances. More recently, the group has sponsored workshops and clinics, and with the Children's Museum of Indianapolis sponsors the Music Stars of Tomorrow program.
