William Bullein Johnson papers, 1848-1922.

Typed copies of letters, family records, newspaper articles, biographical information, and and bound volume, 13 June 1860 - 13 June 1862, "Reminiscences of brethren in the ministry & others with whom I have been associated ... with sketches of my own life." Includes 4 letters, 1848-1855, Edgefield and Hamburg, S.C., to the Rev. I[veson] L. Brookes, re arrangements for preaching, finances, association business for the Baptist Church, and request for his scholarship funds for Furman University; document, 11 Jan. 1850, Fairfield District, S.C., transfer of land on which Furman University was located to Thomas Nelson, signed by Johnson as "President of the State Convention of the Bap. Denomination in South Carolina." Also including undated a bound "thesis" [ca. 1920s-1940s?], typescript biography on Johnson's life and work (49 sheets); this volume is missing a title page and bibliography and the author is unknown, but this may have been a product of Hortense Woodson's research for her 1945 book, " Dr. William Bullein Johnson and the Organization of the Southern Baptist Convention.
