Collection of George P. Firth on the Office and Professional Employees International Union, 1949-1976 (bulk 1960-1976)

The collection contains organizational records, publications, news clippings, and leaflets that Firth produced and collected as result of his affiliation with the Office and Professional Employees International Union. The organizational records include the Constitution of the OPEIU, Executive Board minutes, and financial reports. Folders eight through 27 contain newsletters and leaflets pertaining to local unions in various Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern states as well as Firth's correspondence explaining to workers the benefits of joining and/or creating local unions. Firth served as a representative to local unions in Monroeville, PA; Buffalo, New York; and Flint, Michigan, to name a few. Information about the hospital and health care industry, pension plans, and the strike benefit fund can be found in the collections. Additionally, the Firth collection contains publications from the Seafarer's International Union, United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO, and the bulletin of the Religion and Labor Council of America.
