Subseries 1, General Files contains reports, correspondence, and memoranda pertaining to the management of a program to aid minority businesses in Spanish-speaking North Philadelphia, 1984-88. Subseries 2, Programs, 1986-88, documents seminars, membership promotions; fundraising activities; newsletters; educational programs done in connection with other organizations such as the Fifth Street Merchants Association and the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations; and efforts to gather information about procureent opportunities for neighborhood businesses. Subseries 3, Financial Records, 1986-88, details the Association's financial difficulties. Subseries 4, Client Files, 1986-87, consists of information on individuals assisted under the project.

The Spanish Merchants Company was established by the Spanish Merchants Association of Philadelphia to distribute milk to Spanish-speaking grocers. It was the first minority milk cooperative to act as a subdealer with its own license not subject to price controls of the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board.
