Transcription of journal, typescript copy, correspondence, and research notes. The journal was transcribed by Louis Lenz in 1939. Entries by McFarland date from Jan. 1, 1837-June 10, 1840, with entries by his daughter, Catherine C. McFarland Russell from April 12, 1880 to Jan. 1, 1881. Includes research and notes on the McFarland family by Lenz and correspondence by Frederick C. Chabot regarding his efforts to print the journal for distribution by the Yanaguana Society of San Antonio, Texas.

McFarland served in the Texas Army, 1832-1837, and represented Jasper and Jefferson counties in the Senate of the Sixth Congress of the Republic.
