William Reid Moore papers, 1968-1996.

Organized as follows: Box 1: files on persons and organizations, arranged chronologically. Box 2: moratorium coupons, local and out-of-state clippings and miscellaneous papers. Box 3: books, reference material, address files, and bumper stickers. Consisting of correspondence, clippings and reference material, chiefly re Moore's work in South Carolina during the 1970s for the national campaign for a moratorium on the licensing and operation of civilian nuclear power plants and related issues. Correspondents include Senators Ernest F. Hollings and Strom Thurmond of S.C., and Mike Gravel of Alaska, and with Congressman Floyd Spence of S.C.; others include Lane L. Bonner, Jr., W.J. Bryan Dorn, Hugh P. Harris, Allan Mazur, George McGovern, Hyman Rubin, Alex Sanders, Ruth Thomas, John C. West, Eugene "Nick" Zeigler, and officials of Allied-General Nuclear Services (Barnwell, S.C.). S.C. organizations represented include Environmentalists, Inc., Palmetto Alliance, Piedmont Organic Movement, Public Research Foundation, and S.C. Environmental Action, Inc. National or regional organizations represented include Citizens' Energy Council, Committee for Nuclear Responsibility, Inc., Environmental Defense Fund, National Intervenors, New England Coalition on Nuclear Pollution, Sierra Club, Task Force Against Nuclear Pollution, and Union of Concerned Citzens. Box 3 includes publications [listed individually in catalog] consisting of books, pamphlets, and government documents re nuclear power plants, solar energy, hazardous waste, etc.; unpublished essay, 1972, by John W. Gofman, Some Important Unexamined Questions re the Barnwell Nucluear Fuel Reprocessing Plant (23 sheets); Who's Who at Barnwell nuclear fuel plant, 1971, an illustrated biographical directory; and bumper stickers condemning nuclear power, and promoting solar energy and conservation.
