[Tonale Missae].

Fragment of a Tonale, or Tonary, in this case for the Mass, arranged in order according to the modes and psalm tone terminations of Gregorian chant. Fol. 1r-4v contain part of the eighth mode of a tonary, fol. 5r-v contains seventh-mode antiphons. It is clear from the contents of the manuscript that the order of the first two bifolia has been reversed. Fol. 5 has been sliced in two, both horizontally and vertically, then stuck back together. Fol. 6 is extremely discolored and seems to be a stray leaf from an antiphoner; it probably did not originally belong with the tonary leaves. All of the folios appear to have been used in binding another manuscript. German notes on modern endpaper binding and transcriptions of text in a German hand inserted throughout.

Original: 6 leaves : parchment ; 247-257 x 149-180 (192-215 x 112-140) mm. bound to 258 x 190 mm.Copy: 1 microfilm reel : negative (966:1) & positive (BANC MS UCB 88)
