Arthur W. and Alice Best scrapbook, circa 1918-1930.

A scrapbook owned by San Francisco Bay Area artists Arthur William and Alice Mary Leveque Best. Signed by numerous attendees of their gallery openings, including Mary Austin and Valenti Michael Angelo. Students, friends, and other artists wrote tributes, usually humorous, and included sketches. Also includes many newspaper clippings about art exhibits, sales of paintings, and travels of the artists.

Arthur William Best (1859-1935) was born in Mount Pleasant, Canada. In 1895, he moved to San Francisco where he and Alice Mary Leveque (1870-1926; born in Stockton, California) were married.
