Arthur William Best (1859-1935) was born in Mount Pleasant, Canada. In 1895, he moved to San Francisco where he and Alice Mary Leveque (1870-1926; born in Stockton, California) were married. From 1897 to 1920, they ran the Best School of Art at 1625 California Street.
