Journal written in a treasurer's ledger from the Walnut Hills Lodge, No. 194, confiscated as spoils of war. Grennan describes his regiment's movements, daily operations, and battles. Includes a chronology of early settlement in New England (1620-1629), several newspaper clippings, and some poetry at the end of the journal entries.

Lawrence Grennan was born September 23, 1837, in Kings County, Ireland, the son of Lawrence and Ellen (Money) Grennan. He came to the United States in 1858, arriving in Ohio in October of that year. He served in Company D of the Twentieth Ohio Volunteer Infantry from September of 1861 to July of 1865. He was promoted from private to Hospital Steward on May 1, 1865.
