Unfinished "autobiography" of Manning Cox, circa 1960-1969.

This is a partial autobiography of Manning Cox. It was written in the Maynard Hospital during his last illness. The Cox family typed the autobiography and sent it to family members as a Christmas present. They copied it word for word. Unfortunately, it was never finished. The chapter on Bremerton, WA was just begun and the other parts were not even started. On the last page it states: "This is all of the manuscript that was ever written. Mother, Bob and I join in hoping that you may enjoy reading this as much as we did. Typographical errors by Bill Cox." In 1969 the manuscript was picked up at a rummage sale or thrift shop in Yakima, WA with the thought that it might be useful to someone. It was sent to the Washington State Library (WSL) to see if they might be interested in keeping it, which they did. It was sent to WSL by Mrs. Winifred A. Miller of the Yakima Valley Regional Library.

Manning Cox and his family came to Washington State in 1889. This autobiography recalls his memories of him and his family's life in the region. The majority of his recollections are about his time at Whitman College. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Literature in 1910. That fall he was offered a teaching job in Bremerton, WA. This is where the autobiography ends. But, it appears that he taught in schools in Ballard and Broadway. He taught at the Roosevelt School. It is unclear when he p...
