Johnson family papers, 1843-1904.

Primarily business, investment, legal and family correspondence of a Newbury, Vermont, Troy, New York, and Watertown, Connecticut, family of journalists and lawyers. Of interest are diaries kept by Charlotte Wardner before her marriage to Alexander G. Johnson, Alexander's correspondence about and bills for books, the Yale exams and other college assignments kept by Allen W. Johnson, and the sketches of the Onondaga Indian School by Nancy C. Johnson, 1848. Extensive correspondence exists between Charlotte and Alexander Johnson and their children George, Helen, Charles, Jennie, Martha and Allen, and among the siblings.

Charlotte Pettes Wardner was born to Allen and Minerva Wardner in the summer of 1824. She married Newbury, Vermont, native Alexander George Johnson, a noted journalist and lawyer who practiced in Troy, New York. He was the son of David and Lucy Towne Johnson.
