Founded in 1936 by Alida Milliken of New York City, the Public Action Committee sought to connect a broad spectrum of people (especially those not affiliated with traditional peace societies) in order to convey their pro-peace sentiments to Congress. At its peak, the Committee had 63,000 names on its free mailing list. Due to postage costs, the Committee ran out of funds in 1939.
