Friends of the Earth is an environmental organization, established in 1969 by David Brower. The Northwest office began in April, 1970, with Dale Jones as Northwest representative. The purpose of FOE is to inform the public about environmental issues and to take "direct action to restore, conserve, and promote rational use of the earth's natural resources." David R. Brower was born in Calif. in 1912 and joined the Army at San Francisco, Calif. in 1942. At the time of his enlistment, he had two years of college and had worked as a postal clerk and photographer. He served at Fort Lewis, Wash., Camp Hale, Colo., Camp Swift, Tex., and in Italy.
