Papers, 1829-1841.

The collection contains letters (1829-1830) and a ledger (1832-1841) kept by Jerathmel Jenckes as Justice of the Peace of Lost Creek Township, Vigo County. The letters are from three of the brothers to banker Nicholas Brown about the status of their loans. Also included is a folder of notes removed from between the pages of the ledger. Topics include the operation of the distillery and prices of corn, whiskey, and land.

Four brothers, Jerathmel B., John, Daniel, and Joseph S. Jenckes, probably from Rhode Island, were early settlers of Vigo County, Ind. They dealt in land and ran a distillery.
