Mary Lula Williams was born in 1915 or 1916 to Mr. and Mrs. J.P. (James Polk) Williams and grew up in Paris, Texas, where she graduated from Paris High School in 1934. She attended Southern Methodist University from 1934-1938, where she majored in Latin, English, and German, and was involved in Sigma Kappa Sorority, Mortar Board, and was a Rotunda Beauty.
