Civic leader and businesswoman Dora Buckman Ferran was born in Boston in 1908 and graduated from Girl's High School in 1926. In 1931 she married Archibald H. Ferran, an art student, and they later moved to West Concord, Mass., to care for his ailing father. She ran an accounting firm, Concord Business Service, and served on a number of town committees. Horace William Shaler Cleveland was born in 1814 in New England. After spending time in New England, New Jersey and New York working in landscape architecture, Cleveland settled in Chicago in 1869, establishing a landscape architectural firm. In 1886, he moved his firm to Minneapolis. Considered a visionary landscape architect, Cleveland was responsible for the design of the Minneapolis park system.
