Autograph letter signed : Ticonderoga, "To the hon. Horatio Gates Esqr. Majo. Genl. in the northern department" , 1776 Sept. 3.

This is evidently the orignal rough draft of the document, as it exhibits numerous erasures and additions. It concerns the details of the campaign of Quebec, and the differences between Col. Brown and Benedict Arnold, which finally led to the resignation of Brown (who herein requests that 'Genl. Arnold be immediately put under arrest and brought to trial', for his criticism of Col. Brown), and to his prediction that Arnold would eventually turn traitor.
